Breaking In To Editorial Photography

San Francisco, CA

If you have plans to become a commercial photographer, then shooting for magazines is undoubtedly in your future. Editorial photography is not only a respectable living in it's own right, but it's also a stepping stone to the advertising world. No matter what your area of interest is, there is a magazine out there for you. This seminar is designed to give you a better understanding of the processes of shooting for print publications. Specifically, we'll discuss how to identify titles that best overlap with your strengths as an artist and contributor, how to contact your potential client with success and how to execute a story once you get booked on a job. Additionally, we'll talk about the business side of what it means to shoot for publishing companies in the analog and digital age.

The seminar will discuss the relationship between the photographer and the magazine and how both parties work together to provide a visual solution to a specific editorial need.

If time permits, the seminar will conclude with a brief critique of your portfolio and how it can be structured for maximum results with magazine clients.
