The Institute for Interactive Journalism has awarded CIIJ a New Media grant to launch an Ethnic News Service. CIIJ was among 10 grantees chosen from 185 applicants.
CIIJís Ethnic News Service will help the countryís ethnic media outlets improve their coverage of public affairs and to report issues that affect ethnic communities. CIIJ hopes to engage people of color in public discourse.

Even though ethnic media is gaining ground nationwide, it still lacks the resources to consistently report on public affairs, grassroots movements, and community-based organizations.

Beginning this summer, San Francisco State University journalism students and students from the Bay Area Multicultural Media Academy (BAMMA) will produce articles, photographs, audio and video stories and multimedia packages. Ethnic news outlets can subscribe at no cost to the service for the first year and download stories from CIIJís website.

Our partner, New America Media, will help us engage other ethnic media outlets to subscribe to CIIJís Ethnic News Service.

For more information on the Ethnic News Service, please contact CIIJ at 415.338.2083 or email ciij@sfsu.edu. For more information about the Institute for Interactive Journalism please visit http://www.j-lab.org.
