NBC11 Fall 2006 Internship Open House

Please join NBC11 AND Telemundo48 for our Fall 2006 Internship Open House on Tuesday, August 29 at 6:00 pm

This event is open to all qualified university and college students who are interested in a fall internship with NBC11 or Telemundo 48.

This event is a great opportunity to meet with the NBC11 and Telemundo48 intern leaders from News, Community Relations, Promotions, Production, Sales/Marketing, Public Relations, Internet and Creative Services/Programming.

You are welcome to bring your resume. While it is not mandatory that you attend in order to be considered for an internship, this meeting will provide you an opportunity to hear and meet our internship leaders first hand. Fall interns will be notified by September 29th.

An intern candidate must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college and/or university, and must have at least a 2.5 (C+) cumulative grade point average. THE STUDENT MUST BE ENROLLED IN AN INTERNSHIP COURSE AND MUST RECEIVE COURSE CREDIT FOR THE INTERNSHIP. Students will be required to provide “proof of credit” from their college or university.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For security reasons, absolutely no walk-ups will be allowed entry to the event. You must RSVP and be placed on the guest list to attend.

The Fall 2006 Internship Application Deadline is September 8, 2006

NBC11 offers a wide range of internships opportunities for students interested in careers in electronic media. Our internship program provides students practical skills through hands-on assignments working with talented broadcast professionals who are willing to share their knowledge. Students have the opportunity to work in the following areas:

COMMUNITY RELATIONS: Assisting in the creation, development and facilitating of station events as well as research and production of on-air community focused programs
∗Work as assistant to host/producer and crew of community programs
∗Assist at local events and assist in event facilitation
∗Assist with locating community postings/events to publicize and sponsor
∗Must possess strong writing, speaking and PR skills
∗Must be able to multi-task and work under deadlines

NEWS (San Francisco and San Jose): Hands on experience in day-to-day newsroom operations
*Make calls to law enforcement agencies in search of spot news
*Develop interesting story ideas and set up and coordinate interviews
*Check wires for on-air bulletins, special reports and new story assignments
*Monitor law enforcement frequencies and fire frequencies on newsroom scanners
*Assist photographers with interviews when a reporter is not available
*Shadow reporters and photographers in the field

PROGRAMMING: In Wine County show
*Contribute to the development of a lifestyle show from a production point of view
*Increase your vocabulary about TV, tools, and applications
*Assist in maintaining tape library, transcribing, and web posting
*Opportunities to support crew on local shoots
*We're looking for interns that are gung-ho, team players and have a strong interest in television
*Basic introductory television/writing class preferred

PRODUCTION:
*Shadow crew during live broadcast
*Assist in basic maintenance of studio
*Assist in studio with community programs
*Assist with Newsroom camera

WEBSITE:
*Help write online stories and manage the station’s website
*Must be a strong writer that knows AP style
*Must have some HTML experience, Photoshop Experience is a big plus

COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION
*Assists Creative Service Producer in the process of developing a creative commercial spot for new and existing clients.
*Assist in all aspects of Mobil commercial production shoots
*Assist on-location at live events
*Assist in logistics and planning
*Must possess strong writing, speaking and PR skills
* Work closely with AVID editors, logging video and assist in building spots and packages

SPORTS:
*Assists Sports Producers and On-Air Talent in developing daily Sports segment for NBC11 news broadcast
*Assist in all aspects of Sports production
*Assist on-location at live sporting events ~Assist in logistics and planning

QUALIFICATIONS:

*Currently enrolled at an accredited college, university or technical school
* Must have at least a 2.5 (C+) cumulative grade point average
*Internships are unpaid, therefore students must earn college credit
*Ability to work 15-25hours/week during the required semester period
