Descry Magazine
is a bi-annual publication born out of the necessity to support the visibility
of emerging photographers and artists, particularly women, people of color and
queers. Our publication is a nod to the fleeting beauty and beast of the modern
world. Developed out San Francisco’s
mission district, Descry is an innovative adjunct to the arts and
counter-culture movement with a combined documentary and conceptual approach to
cultural, political, and social experience.
In 2011, Descry
is expanding operations to offer a grant for women and queer photographers (WQP
Grant).
Descry is a
small, independent publication- we are seeking an intern who is innovative, creative,
believes in our mission, is passionate about engaging with artists and has an
interest in print and online media.
The intern will
work directly with the publication editor and publisher, and will have the
following duties:
Distribution-
required
- distribution
responsibilities will involve researching, coordinating and networking the
magazine to international and national vendors
- packaging and mailing
out magazines
- logging/
filing of distribution information
submissions
-our next call for submission is not open
until January- dependant on longevity of internship, the intern will download
and file submissions.
Fundraising and
Marketing
researching funding opportunities and online marketing that may grow into a
more in-depth grant-writing work, dependant on the longevity of the internship.
Facebook, Blog
updating website
-updating blog
and facebook
Required Qualifications:
-Must be comfortable making phone calls
-must be diligent, reliable, responsible, independently
motivated, organized, and have a strong desire to learn the comprehensive
publication business
-some experience with excel, word, mac platforms
-own a mac platform laptop
- be comfortable in a laid back work environment

This is an unpaid internship. Descry is flexible to meeting the standards for a college
credit internship requirement.
