Fiction & Science Writers

Cosmology.com is offering internships for creative writers of non-fiction and fiction.

The online, open access Journal of Cosmology and Cosmology.com are the subject of national and
international news stories and receive nearly 1 million hits and have a combined readership of
nearly 100,000 a month. Dr. Rudy Schild of the Center for Astrophysics at the Harvard-Smithsonian is
editor-in-chief, and guest editors include senior scientists at NASA, and Sir Roger Penrose of
Oxford University.

Whereas the Journal of Cosmology is devoted to the publication of scientific research and scholarly
articles, Cosmology.com features news from all realms of science ranging from human sexuality to
black holes in space.

Cosmology is offering online experience and the opportunity to write (and rewrite and edit)
creative articles about current news be it science, politics, or entertainment. These articles will
be no more than 1,000 words in length.

Cosmology also intends to develop a "What If" column, where writers can take current science news
stories and transform them into flights of fantasy and the imagination.

1) We will ask each applicant/Intern to chose among several broad categories which interests them,
e.g. the brain, consciousness, sex, space, entertainment, climate, computers, technology, the
environment, and so on.

2) They will be assigned specific stories which have already been published or distributed on the
news wires, and will be asked to A) investigate, B) interview, C) research, D) rewrite, and E)
submit a 1,000 word article.

3) We believe items 2A-2E can take place entirely online.

4) Editors will review the completed article, provide detailed feedback, and request a revision.

5) The accepted article will be published online at Cosmology, under the byline of the author.

We believe all this can take place online with no face-to-face time (but perhaps a few conversations
by phone).

The goal of Cosmology is to entertain, inform, and provoke the imagination with science-based prose.

This is a not a paid internship, though opportunities to earn income are available. Writing for
Cosmology will open doors to freelance for other periodicals.
