Re: Volunteer position(s)
Date: Jan 6, 2011
The California Civil Rights Coalition (CCRC), which is housed at the Equal Justice Society office in San Francisco, seeks 1 or 2 part-time volunteers to assist with updating our website with current issues and writing op-eds.
CCRC is a statewide coalition made up of more than 75 organizations across California founded in 1985. Along with supporting the causes of our member organizations, such as immigrant rights, education equity and promoting judicial nominations, CCRC has a few main priorities. We are currently addressing the root causes of the California budget crisis, coordinating a progressive slate for ballot initiatives for the 2012 election and working on campaign finance reform.
The CCRC steering committee is made up of 12 civil rights practitioners in California including Co-chairs Eva Paterson of Equal Justice Society and Tom Saenz of MALDEF. Claudia Peņa is the Statewide Coordinator.
CCRC is looking for 1-2 part-time volunteers who can dedicate up to 10 hours a week. The benefits for the student will be the following:
(1) developing your skills in writing about complicated issues in a succinct and compelling manner in order to educate and/or sway opinion
(2) learning how to use word press
(3) deepening your understanding of certain social justice issues
(4) taking part in state-wide efforts on issues that directly affect students such as the budget crisis
(5) developing your list of references
Please contact Claudia at cpena@equaljusticesociety.org if you are interested.
