Each intern is accepted as part of the dedicated staff of seven photojournalists and is expected to work closely with editors and reporters in every newsroom department to coordinate and photograph assignments ranging from daily general news to sporting events. Each intern is assigned a mentor to help you navigate our city as well as the newsroom. Our talented staff will work with you to develop your vision and direction as a photojournalist.
Internship applicants do not have to be photojournalism majors, but must show a solid understanding of the fundamentals and ethics of photojournalism. Applicants should still be currently enrolled in college or be a recent graduate. You will be paid for your work. You must have a reliable car, a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. You will need to find housing in Lincoln, which we can assist you with. The Journal Star supplies all equipment. We are a digital photo department. No digital photography experience is needed; we will teach you how to be a digital photojournalist.
The Lincoln Journal Star is a daily newspaper (75,000 daily, 84,000 Sunday circulation) in Nebraska’s capital city. The paper is printed on a new state-of-the-art flexo press that has outstanding photographic reproduction. We emphasize local news with strong coverage of schools, sports and news in the 17-county region of Southeast Nebraska.
