Marin Indendent Journal Internships for College and High School Students

The Marin Independent Journal offers student internships throughout the year. Our newsroom internships are unpaid, and interns must be students who earn academic credit for their internships.

For College Students
We offer reporting/writing internships in our Local News, Sports and Lifestyles departments. (We do not offer copy editing, photography or graphic design internships.)

To apply, send us:
-A cover letter explaining how many hours you need to work for academic credit. Tell us the dates you ll be available. Tell us the name of the school and teacher or professor who is approving your internship. Also tell us what you want to do during your internship. This should include the news department you want to work for (e.g., Sports, Lifestyles, Local News).
-A resume listing your academic background and previous employment.
-Up to six samples of your published writing from your college paper or other internships. Mail your application to: Newsroom Internships Marin Independent Journal PO Box 6150 Novato, CA 94948-6150.

APPLICATION DEADLINE Applications for summer internships must be postmarked no later than April 1. We consider applications for other time periods throughout the year, so we have no set deadline for fall, winter or spring internships.

For High School Students

We offer editorial assistant internships for high school students. These internships are intended for juniors and seniors. They give you a chance to work in our newsroom helping reporters and editors.

To apply, send us:
-A cover letter explaining how many hours you need to work for academic credit. Tell us the dates you ll be available. Tell us the name of the school and teacher or professor who is approving your internship. Also tell us what you want to accomplish during your internship. This should include the news department you want to work for (e.g., Sports, Lifestyles, Local News, News Library).
-A resume listing your schooling and any previous employment or volunteer work.
